Callas, Images of a Legend

The fascination that emanates from Maria Callas (1923-1977), her personality and her voice, has now taken on the dimension of cultic veneration. The Callas' singing art, immortalized in countless live recordings and studio recordings, also overwhelms the generation of those who no longer saw them on stage, and their life story, full of splendor and not without tragedy, continues to move people's minds.For the 100th. To mark the birthday of this icon of opera art, which the world celebrates on December 2nd, 2023, we are re-publishing our illustrated book, which was published in 1993. It contains photographs of the Callas' legendary stage performances, portraits, still photos, press photos and private recordings - and is intended as an approach in images and words to a unique phenomenon in music and contemporary history. An appreciation of Ingeborg Bachmann, an essay by the Munich musicologist Attila Csampai and a discography compiled by Dieter Fuoss complement the image section, which includes around 170 photographs.
